Mkwiro is a village in Wasini Island at the south
coast. It has a population of 2,500 including children. It is an area
that has problems with water and during dry season, the villagers
have to cross the island to buy water from the main land. The villagers
cannot move as this is their home area and have no where to go. Owing
to this problem, MCBO and GRA went ahead to construct a borehole.
The borehole was sponsored by Growth Reaching Africa. It was constructed
by Wadamo Water Agencies. At first the water was good for human consumption,
after a while it turned into saline. It is supplying the community
with water for domestic use however, the water cannot be used for
drinking because it is saline. We have scheduled a documentary which
will address the challenges of this project and seek more assistance
from the government of Kenya.
